The Order of Canada

On December 12th, 2008, Deborah Grey received the Order of Canada (Officer) at the Investiture Ceremony presented by Her Excellency The Right Honourable Michaelle Jean CC, CMM, COM, CD.

The ceremony took place at Rideau Hall where 47 Canadians were awarded the OC, 31 as Members, 14 as Officers and 2 as Companions.

The official description of the Order of Canada is shown below:

"Comprising orders, decorations, medals, armorial bearings and other heraldic devices, the Canadian Honours System was established on July 1st, 1967, with the creation of the Order of Canada. The Order of Canada is the cornerstone of our system of honours. It pays tribute to Canadians who exemplify the highest qualities of citizenship and whose contributions enrich the lives of their contemporaries. The Latin motto of this order of merit - DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM - proclaims the aspirations of its members who, in their lives and work, have shown that they 'desire a better country'."
